Happy Halloween! Witches, with their pointy black hats and long warty noses, have long been a staple of Halloween.
The classic image of a witch on a broom flying across a full moon is a popular subject for Halloween decorations of all shapes and sizes. The real story of witches is a bit different than this simplification. Witches have been called my many different names and are found in the lore of almost every society throughout history. Depending on the culture, witches can be evil troublemakers or well-respected healers. They can provide curses or charms, healing or hexing. A faithful animal companion, also known as a familiar, usually a bat or a black cat, often accompanies traditional Halloween witches.
